Pets are important in my house. So, regular cleaning is needed to minimize pet odors and allergens. I am not selling my house but want it to smell good! When it comes to selling your house or just keeping your house smelling good, pet smells can be a major turnoff for potential buyers. Here are some tips on how to eliminate pet smells when selling your house.
1. Clean carpets and upholstery: Pet hair and dander can easily get trapped in carpets and upholstery, causing unpleasant smells. Hire a professional carpet cleaner to deep clean your carpets and upholstery. If you have pets, it’s recommended that you do this at least twice a year. The only way it works for me is I put it on a calendar.
2. Use an air purifier: Air purifiers are a great tool for removing pet odors from the air. Look for an air purifier with a HEPA filter, which can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns. Place the air purifier in the room where your pets spend the most time. We have an air purifier for our bedroom and our Great Room. We have them at work too. They help with my allergies
3. Use pet odor eliminators: Numerous pet odor eliminators on the market can help remove pet smells from your home. Look for products that contain enzymes, which break down the proteins in pet urine and other organic matter that causes odors. Also, regularly wash your dog. I use white vinegar diluted with a couple of drops of Dawn or OdoBan.
4. Change HVAC air filters and Wash bedding and fabrics: Your pet’s bedding, blankets, and other fabrics can absorb odors over time. Wash these items regularly with a pet-friendly detergent to keep them smelling fresh. I wash all my pet blankets and bed linens once a week. I love to use Diva Wash by Glam. Makes my dog smell amazing after she sleeps on a fresh towel or blanket. Also, I put a fresh towel or blanket on top of their bed since the beds seem to fall apart after my washing regime.
5. Deep clean surfaces: Wipe down surfaces in your home with a pet-friendly cleaner to remove any pet hair or dander that may be lingering. Pay special attention to areas where your pets spend the most time, such as their favorite chair or bed. Try to cover your favorite spots with something that easily washes. We also sweep daily where we have all tracked in and Vacuum/Mop once a week.
By following these tips, you can eliminate pet smells when selling your house and create a more inviting atmosphere for potential buyers.
